For someone comfortable with a smartphone, an Apple Watch (fall detection, Medical ID, ECG, sleep apnea alerts, and now hypertension notifications) or a Samsung Galaxy Watch (a similar suite, plus cuff-calibrated blood pressure) covers the most ground, as long as the features actually get turned on – and if Samsung is on your list, know that Samsung is expected to unveil new Galaxy Watch models on July 22, 2026, so it’s worth checking what just launched before you buy. For someone who doesn’t carry a smartphone, or who needs professional monitoring, a dedicated medical alert watch is usually the better fit. Whatever you choose, the feature that matters most is the one that’s actually set up – fall detection turned on, emergency contacts added, Medical ID filled in – because none of it works switched off in a drawer.
